Jasleen Sandhu in a white hard hat and safety vest, arms crossed, under the steel roof of a building site

Jasleen Sandhu

Associate, Merced office

I ran safety on warehouse builds before law school. I know what an incident report leaves out.

I grew up in Livingston, where my parents farm almonds, and before law school I was a site safety coordinator on distribution-center builds around the Valley. I filled out the forms that insurers later used to deny claims.

Now I handle construction, warehouse and denied claims for the Merced office. I meet clients in English, Punjabi or Hindi, and our Merced staff work with Spanish-speaking clients every day.

How Jasleen reads a denial

Jasleen reads the incident report against the site's own safety logs and the client's texts from that day. When the three tell different stories, the denial usually rests on the weakest one.

She asks every client for the names of the coworkers who saw it happen, and calls them herself.
